Things I love at the moment...

Dm dm dm dmdm...Dm dm dm dmdm...

I haven't done one of these in a while, and since I'm rebelling against the tinies...I figured I should write something else.

1)  Moxy Früvous

In the event you are astute... or just plain crazy... you may have noticed that the above Dm dm's were from Moxy Früvous' song King of Spain.  Otherwise, you are like the rest of the normal human being population and just thought I was crazy instead.  ANYWAYS.

I woke up with that song in my head, which is strange because I haven't heard it in ages...maybe almost a year?  So long that I hadn't re-ripped my Früvous collection after my music collection disappeared.  And I had to do that today in order to listen to it.  They are amazing and witty and funny and I heart them lots.

In case you didn't guess from the picture, they're an all male quartet that sings (mostly) a cappella (which means "in the manner of the church"...).  They're from Canada, so hockey comes up a lot in their music, and they're also quite liberal, so they don't like war and such.  *shrug* They're good.  And they have lots of magical songs.  A few you should hear:

King of Spain (for those who didn't figure it out already)
I love my Boss
Green Eggs and Ham (I am not certain that was them...it might be They Might be Giants...who knows.)
Breakfast at Tiffany's
Spiderman
My Baby loves a bunch of authors
And all of Bargainville.

2)  French toast

I made myself some this morning.  With an extra slice for tomorrow morning.  It was made with cinnamon swirl bread...which is nommy.  That is all.

3)  Lots 'o Pulp Orange Juice

I like having to chew my orange juice.  I wouldn't have it any other way.  Just put the whole orange in my glass.

4)  Sleeping

I haven't gone to bed later than 1:30 all week.  Last night I went to bed AT 1:30 and the rest of the time I've been in bed pretty close to midnight.  It's wonderful!  I get around 7.5 hours a night!  WHEE!

5)  DIY Food Growing

I have been listening to Seattle PR's Greenday podcast from the Weekday show and they talked about container gardening a week or so ago and I decided I was going to do that.  I have sugar snap peas out in a long rectangular container I attached to my railing and I will be working on more plants.  I'm going to try to start cherry tomatoes, lettuce, marigolds, beans and zinnias from seed.  I have two more peas to find containers for and a parsley plant.  The pots at the garden place were $37 for a smallish one...so I went to Goodwill and found some baskets/wooden buckets I thought would work pretty well.  They won't be as sturdy as a big pottery thing, but it'll do (pig).  I'll post pics later.

I also want to make squaberries.  Yep.  And my pansies sprouted.  They're tiny, but getting bigger.  Also have chives that have sprouted.  And I took the cat grass outside.

Oh and since the peas I bought came with like...ten plants, I planted two near the fence in my next door neighbor's yard.  I figure if they want some peas, they can have them.  But they'll have to get to them before me... :D  What else...?  I think that's it.  I wanted to do cucumbers and squash and peppers and celery and lots of other things, but there is no way I have the space for any of that.  I want a P-patch.  I put myself on the waiting list.

6)  My Mandolin

I played it for an hour or so yesterday and had balls of fun.  I do not like the A chord.  I have mastered G, D and C and can sometime hit the A cord.  Am good at downstrokes, but not so consistent at upstrokes.  I had to stop after an hour because my left fingers hurt from the strings.  It's hard work!  Next to master is slurs.

7)  The sun

It came out today!  For a little while, anyways.  It also sprinkled intermittently (leave out the last t in that word and you get intermittenly!) and even hailed.  It was nice, though.  Not gloomy.

8)  Pecans (not burnt)

I didn't really mean to burn them...but the salmon wasn't cooked all the way, so I let it sit longer.  I even took the pecans out before the fish, but they still tasted...kinda like what I would imagine biting into a piece of burnt-to-charcoal wood would be like.  Better luck next time, eh?

And my neighbors are partying, so I will be sleeping in my living room tonight.  While listening to...Rachmaninov's Vespers, I think.  That will be nice and perhaps drown out the residual bus and "WOOOOOOOO!!!!!" (undergrads around here are all "Woo"-ers) noises.  Goodnight all!

  1. second your OJ assertion - i am perennially saddened that bagel shops, chinese bakeries and the like only stock "no pulp".

  2. Goodness, yes! It should be a crime to not have pulp orange juice. There's just something weird about the way no pulp tastes...it reminds me of tang...
